HIp Arthritis

Arthritis is essentially degenerative change in the hip joint from progressive loss of the cartilage covering the surfaces.
It results in a progression of pain and stiffness.

In the early stages, symptoms can be appropriately managed by maintaining activity, physiotherapy, taking appropriate painkillers and controlling weight.

When these measures are no longer sufficient and the level of symptoms starts to impact on function and quality of life, then consultation with a hip specialist is recommended to discuss total hip replacement.
